1. IELTS Task Two ​

​ ​ ​ – 40 minutes​

2. Writing Genres ​

3. How Many Paragraphs Are Needed ​

​ ​ ​ ​ – Four to Five Ones ​

4.How Long Do You Need to Write ​

​ ​ ​ – 250 Words or above​

1⃣ What Tenses Are Used​

2⃣ How Many Types of Task Two​

A. Opinion​

Eg. Most people believe that stricter punishment should be given for traffic offences. To what extent do you agree? (February 2018)​

B. Discussion​

Eg. Some people think it is more beneficial to play sports that are played in teams, e.g. football. However, some people think it is more beneficial to play individual sports, e.g. tennis and swimming. Discuss about both views and give your own opinion. (January 2018)​

C. Direct Question​

Eg. In many countries, the tradition of families having meals together is disappearing. Why is this happening? ​

What will be the effects of it on the family and society? (February 2018)​

D. Advantage/ Disadvantage​

Eg. The use of social media, such as Facebook and Twitter, is replacing face-to-face contact with many people. Do the advantages outweigh the disadvantages? (December 2017)​

E. Problem & Solution​

Eg. Fewer and fewer young people are choosing to become teachers. Why do young people not want to be teachers? How this could be changed? (February 2018)​

✨IELTS Writing Task 1 and Task 2 scores are calculated using 4 criteria:​

A. Task Achievement (TA) = how well you answer the question.​

To increase score for TA:​

1. present the information accurately​

2. answer all parts of the task​

3. provide a clear overview​

4. highlight key features and support detail with data (Academic task 1)​

5. give a clear position, have a definite opinion (Task 2 and General task 1)​

B. Coherence and Cohesion (CC) = how well is your text structured.​

To increase score for CC:​

1. manage paragraphing​

2. make sure that each paragraph has a central idea​

3. use linking words and cohesive devices (firstly, in contrast, thus, in my​

​ ​ opinion, to sum up etc)​

C. Lexical Resource (LR) = how good is your vocabulary.​

To increase score for LR:​

1. use a wide range of vocabulary​

2. use less common lexical items​

3. avoid errors in spelling and word formation​

D. Grammatical Range and Accuracy (GRA) = how good is your grammar. To increase score for GRA:​

1. use a wide range of grammatical structures and tenses​

2. manage punctuation​

3. avoid errors in sentences​
